After years in the political closet, the abortion debate is back in full swing, as Texas passed a restriction on abortion before the 20th week of pregnancy. The “pro-choice” crowd staged their usual vile protests, complete with used tampons and jars of feces and urine to hurl at pro-life legislators all while shouting “Hail Satan” in the halls of the statehouse. Such lovely people.
Proponents of life were accused of the usual litany of lies from the Left, opposition to women’s health being the most prominent accusation. In 2012, the Democrats said the Republicans were waging a war on women, an attack strategy that obviously paid dividends in the end. Hillary Clinton, poised to succeed Obama in 2016, is already ramping up the same rhetoric, claiming that “the clock is turning back” on women in America.
But as with most everything that comes out of the mouth of leftists, there is very little evidence to back their claim, a usual Democratic tactic, the McCarthyites they are. But one thing is for sure, it is liberals who have engaged in a war on women, and more specifically, a war on babies.
Earlier this year in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, an abortion clinic under the direction of Dr. Kermit Gosnell has been called a “house of horrors” where babies born alive were murdered on the operating table, most of them dying by having their necks slashed and their spinal cords cut, all while they are alive and kicking.
Fortunately, the state pursued murder charges against the doctor, his wife, and several clinic employees – seven counts for the murder of seven children and one for the death of a woman who died during an abortion procedure. Dr. Gosnell is now in prison for the remainder of his days.
But is the legal partial birth abortion procedure any different? No it isn’t but we have had to fight our way to protect babies in the third trimester when it should be obvious to anyone that such an act is pure murder. The Texas bill sought to do that, just as we have done in Mississippi, but it took a big fight and two attempts before it was successful.
The radicals, though, have not stopped. They want more. Fanatics did not care for the Gosnell prosecution. And recently students at a college campus signed petitions to legalize “fourth trimester” abortions, meaning after the baby is already born.
But that’s just silly kids, you say? Senator Barbara Boxer of California is on record that she believes life does not begin until the child is brought home from the hospital, while radical leftist Melissa Harris-Perry of MSNBC said recently that life began whenever the parents said it did. I wonder what the cut off age is? 18? 35? Where does it end?
And what of our radical president? In 2002, as a state senator in Illinois, Barack Obama supported and cast three votes in favor of a bill that would allow a doctor to terminate the life of a child born after a botched abortion, much like Kermit Gosnell’s gruesome methods in Philadelphia. During the floor debates, while discussing the procedures, Obama described an unborn child as a “fetus, child – however way you want to describe it.” If that’s not cold and callus, then I don’t know what is. In 2004, the icy Obama referred to an unborn child as “a potential life” rather than an actual one.
Obama’s FDA, on April 30 of this year, ruled that girls as young as 15 would be allowed to buy the “morning after” pill over the counter and without parental or a doctor’s prescription. The president said he was comfortable with that decision for it was based on “solid scientific evidence.”
And what about “solid scientific evidence”? Conservatives argue that life begins at conception and, at least scientifically, that’s true. The understanding of DNA, which continues to develop yearly, proved that a child, from its earliest moments after conception, has its own unique DNA strand, separate from mother and father. It is NOT a woman’s body; it is its very own.
But at least in a spiritual sense, we believe life begins much earlier. Our Heavenly Father, on several occasions, noted when life began: In Jeremiah 1:5, God said: “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you.”
In the Psalms, 139:13-16: “For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well. My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place, when I was woven together in the depths of the earth. Your eyes saw my unformed body; all the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be.”
Paul said in Ephesians 1:4 that God “chose us in him before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless in his sight.”
Now I realize that the heathens on the Left do not, in reality, believe in the Holy Scriptures but that doesn’t make it any less true. They only use it as campaign rhetoric. Their god is government and no government on earth has ever held life dear.
But who are we, as a society, to dare to determine when life begins and to dare to determine who lives and who dies? Our Constitution protects life in both the Fifth and Fourteenth Amendments. If we have no right to life, what rights do we have?
We have allowed the Left to purge our schools and our civilization, as best they can, of God, the Bible, and the Constitution. And as a result we have allowed over 50 million children to be murdered since 1973. Should we be surprised that our society is on the verge of fiscal and moral collapse? We shouldn’t be.
