Thad Cochran Showing Early Signs of Desperation

With less than four months until the primary election for US Senate in Mississippi, the political season is now in full swing.  And like clockwork, the long-anticipated attacks against Senator Chris McDaniel by allies of the Thad Cochran camp have begun in earnest, and sadly, in dishonestly, if not downright hilarity.

Finding themselves in what must be an increasingly desperate situation, Senator Cochran and his well-funded surrogates and friends have initiated a campaign of low blows.  This operation of deceit is nothing more than the establishment of the Republican Party, both on the national and state level, rallying around a weakened leader in a desperate attempt to make him look good by tearing down his opponent. Thad Cochran’s Flaws Not Just Fiscal

In a recent post I exposed Thad’s Cochran’s horrific fiscal record, a legacy of taxing and spending worthy of any good liberal, but sadly that’s not the only flaw he possesses.  His career does not reflect true conservative principles in the areas of national defense, the culture wars, active government, and the environment.

It simply cannot be said that Thad Cochran is supportive of all efforts to maintain a strong national defense and protect our borders.  In 1982 he voted for amnesty for illegals, and in 2005 against a small increase in funds for tighter border security.  Senator Cochran voted to cut $80 million from the Titan missile program in 1982 and voted against increases in the MX missile system and the new Midgetman missiles that President Reagan wanted as part of his defense buildup. The Democrats’ War on Babies

After years in the political closet, the abortion debate is back in full swing, as Texas passed a restriction on abortion before the 20th week of pregnancy.  The “pro-choice” crowd staged their usual vile protests, complete with used tampons and jars of feces and urine to hurl at pro-life legislators all while shouting “Hail Satan” in the halls of the statehouse.  Such lovely people.

Proponents of life were accused of the usual litany of lies from the Left, opposition to women’s health being the most prominent accusation.  In 2012, the Democrats said the Republicans were waging a war on women, an attack strategy that obviously paid dividends in the end. Hillary Clinton, poised to succeed Obama in 2016, is already ramping up the same rhetoric, claiming that “the clock is turning back” on women in America.

But as with most everything that comes out of the mouth of leftists, there is very little evidence to back their claim, a usual Democratic tactic, the McCarthyites they are.  But one thing is for sure, it is liberals who have engaged in a war on women, and more specifically, a war on babies. Prosperity in the Hands of Fools

The richest and wisest man who ever lived, Solomon, counseled us in the Book of Proverbs that “the prosperity of fools will destroy them.” Notice that Solomon did not say prosperity will ruin anyone, but the fool only.  So his wisdom is simple:  If you have wealth, don’t be a fool with it and you will remain prosperous.  If you want wealth, remain wise and not foolish and you will gain it, and hopefully keep it.

Now let us look at that foolish institution called the United States government.

Our great country grew from a late 18th century economic joke into the world’s super economy in a little more than a century, with much of the phenomenal growth coming in a 50-year period from 1865 until World War I.  Using wise policies the United States led the globe in every conceivable economic category as the 20th century began, and all because of free market capitalism.  The government was largely absent. Yes, the Problem is Immigration

With the recent terrorist attack in Boston, our distinguished leaders in Washington should finally learn a simple but vital lesson.  The main problem with Islamic terrorism in the United States is not internal security but immigration. Decades of liberal policies have allowed our enemies to live among us and left us open and vulnerable for deadly attacks by those who hate us.

Rather than profile Muslims in our midst, and break up terror cells and kick preachers of hate and violence out of the country, we are more concerned with not offending the Arab world than we are with actually protecting our people. This is a recipe for disaster. Continue reading “Yes, the Problem is Immigration”

Happy Birthday to Mr. Jefferson!

On April 13, those of us who love liberty and value the ideals of the American Revolution should reflect on the birthday of Thomas Jefferson, one of our greatest presidents.

After penning the words of the Declaration of Independence, and serving in a variety of public offices, Jefferson stood for election to the presidency in 1800. Americans were more than ready for a change after twelve years of Federalist rule, and as a result, Jefferson’s Republican Party swept into power by taking over both houses of Congress in addition to the Presidency.

Many historians erroneously claim that President Jefferson did not institute much change once he entered the White House.  This is wholly untrue.  Jefferson made monumental changes during his presidential tenure, beginning with his inaugural ceremony, completely altering the decorum of the presidency.  He wore simple clothing and walked to the Capitol rather than arrive in grand style.  Today newly inaugurated presidents walk part of the way up Pennsylvania Avenue as a tribute to Jefferson. Time for a GOP Knock-Down Drag-Out

The recent moves by the establishment Republican Party are enough to give any true conservative a major case of heartburn, if not feelings of outright disgust, contempt, and abandonment.  The GOP seems poised to continue on its well-worn path of political cowardice, backing down at every turn each time Democrats raise a controversial issue.

Now it seems that the new issue is gay marriage and the Republican Party seems over-eager to have that volatile question off the table for 2014 and 2016, and every election after that. Establishment hacks have indicated that the next Republican nominee for President might support gay marriage, much to the chagrin of traditional rank and file conservatives. The Problem with Gun Control

“Good people do not need laws to tell them to act responsibly, while bad people will find a way around the laws.”  So said Plato, some 400 years before the birth of Christ.  It is wisdom we should pay close attention to, for it seems that the latest mass shooting in Connecticut will lead to a major federal gun grab.

A new proposal initiated by Senator Dianne Feinstein will be the most wide-ranging gun ban in American history.  It will outlaw 120 types of weapons, including some handguns, and will require gun owners to be fingerprinted and their guns registered with the ATF.  The feds will also be able to determine who can have guns and who can’t, a “no buy” list similar to the TSA’s “no fly” list.  Private gun sales between individuals and a ban on gun shows are also in the works. It’s Time for the States to Strike Back

During his tenure as president, George Washington visited the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. When asked if he would call upon the new chief executive, Governor John Hancock is reputed to have said, “I am the highest ranking public official in the state and he should call on me.”  The humble Washington did so.

Today, every time a president visits a state, we are treated to the pathetic scene of the governor and various state and local public officials waiting on the tarmac for the “King” to emerge from his state-of-the-art aircraft. Sadly, the states have willingly become subservient provinces.  This is not they way it was intended to be. Continue reading “It’s Time for the States to Strike Back”

Marching with Marx

Last week I wrote a column about living in an emerging authoritarian state.  Yet I am certain most readers probably believe I have lost my mind and probably need some meds. But before we go that far, allow me to continue on this path by examining a 165-year-old political pamphlet of remarkable influence.  It is, in fact, so significant that it is still widely published today.

In 1848, Karl Marx and Frederick Engels published a short booklet entitled The Communist Manifesto.  Within its pages, the authors laid down ten specific goals for the establishment of the ideal state.  Amazingly, we are on a path to complete the fulfillment of most of its provisions. Some we have finalized; others we have partially implemented and seem to be racing to accomplish: Continue reading “Marching with Marx”
