Chris McDaniel Shines at Neshoba, Delbert Continues to Lie and Smear

Senator Chris McDaniel fired up his supporters at the historic Neshoba County Fair, citing his plan for Mississippi and pointing out his opponent Delbert Hosemann’s terrible record as Lt. Governor.

McDaniel’s general theme is simply this: We can do better!

Consider the contrast between the two:

Hosemann boasted of cutting the state income tax; McDaniel wants to get rid of it completely. Hosemann never mentioned ending the tax on groceries; McDaniel wants to eliminate that too. Hosemann never discussed the woke culture pervading our schools and universities; McDaniel vows to stop it. Hosemann never mentioned Joe Biden and pushing back against Washington; McDaniel wants Mississippi to be like Florida and Texas and stand up to the federal government. And on and on.

But one issue jumped to the forefront of the speeches: McDaniel never got personal today at Neshoba; but Delbert did. Citing the negative tone of the campaign, which he blamed on McDaniel, Hosemann then referred to his opponent as “pathological” (he started to say liar but backed off, simply saying my “pathological … opponent.”), “despicable,” and “lazy.” McDaniel never called Delbert a derogatory name; he only pointed to his record.

This is a common theme from the Hosemann camp for the duration of this race. In fact, despite their lies to the contrary, it was the Delbert Hosemann campaign that went negative ON DAY ONE:

After his speech was concluded, McDaniel spoke to reporters behind the pavilion. Once Hosemann had finished his speech and was making his way off stage, McDaniel kindly asked him if he would like to debate. Hosemann ignored him and kept walking. Not the sign of a true statesman nor a Southern gentleman.

Hosemann certainly brought a number of supporters to the fair because he wanted to make it seem as if his campaign is well ahead in the race, but now we know it was all an illusion. McDaniel supporters came of their own volition and paid their own way into the fair; Hosemann had to bus them in and pay for their ticket!

The lesson of the 2023 Neshoba County Fair: If Delbert Hosemann is really ahead in this race and is currently coasting to the finish line, as his campaign team contends, then way are they acting like they are? They are not acting like a campaign that is ahead but behind, and that’s because they are. And they know it.
