Arlington Memorial For Apollo 1

Did you know that there is not a memorial at Arlington National Cemetery to honor the crew of Apollo 1, who tragically perished in a flash fire inside their spacecraft on January 27, 1967?

There is a memorial to Challenger and Columbia but not to Apollo 1.

But there is presently an effort led by Gus Grissom’s brother, Lowell, to get a memorial erected at the site where two of the crew – Gus Grissom and Roger Chaffee – are buried. Sadly, Arlington has already rejected one proposal:

Let us hope that a memorial to the fallen crew, which was so important in reaching the moon, is finally realized!
